Birth control methods have been changed and developed into more comfortable ones with different researches. Of all the methods, oral contraceptive pills have become the most popular ones and are widely used by women. Contraceptive pills are available in two forms, as combination pills or mini pills. Yasmin is one of the most popular combination contraceptive pills that is available. It has been proven to be the most effective lower dosage pill and almost 99% effective in preventing a woman from getting pregnant. The other benefit that comes along with this pill is that it does not cause weight gain, which often comes as a side of many other contraceptive pills. It also gives immediate protection if it is taken on the very first day of your period. Another benefit of this birth control pill is that it reduces water retention. It can also be used to treat skin diseases such as acne, and to improve the appearance of your skin or hair.
This pill, being a combination pill, contains two female hormones oestrogen and progestogen as its active ingredient. The two active ingredients present in Yasmin are ethinylestradiol (oestrogen) and drospirenone (progestogen). With the help of these two artificial female hormones, this pill gives you a three way protection against pregnancy. Yasmin prevents ovulation from occurring by tricking your body into believing that ovulation has already occurred, thickening your cervical mucus to prevent the entry of a sperm and altering the lining of your womb, so as to prevent growth of an egg. You can take this pill if you are 18 years old and are looking for a long term, low dosage contraception. You should avoid taking this birth control pill if your already pregnant or have a doubt that you might be pregnant.
Ortho Tri-Cyclen is another combination pill, which is widely used by women for preventing pregnancy. This pill contains ethinylestradiol (oestrogen) and norgestimate (progestogen) as its active ingredient. This pill, also being a combination pill, gives you a three way protection against pregnancy. This pill can also be used for treating a skin condition known as acne. Ortho Tri-Cyclen also gives the benefit of making your periods lighter and lessening menstrual symptoms such as bloating and cramps. This birth control pill is most effective if taken on the very first day of your menstrual cycle. You are required to take this pill for all 28 days of your menstrual cycle, of which, the last 7 pills are the hormone free tablets, during which, you can have your periods.
But you should avoid taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen if you are pregnant and are below the age of 18 years. This pill should also be avoided if your are suffering from health conditions such as coronary artery disease, severe heart valve disorder, high blood pressure, a history of stroke or blood clot, circulation problems, hormone related cancers such as breast or uterine cancer, unusual vaginal bleeding, liver disease or liver cancer, severe migraine and a history of jaundice that is caused by pregnancy or birth control pills. Some of the side effects of this birth control pill are nausea, vomiting, appetite or weight changes, breast swelling or tende
ess, headache, nervousness, dizziness, problems with contact lenses, freckles or darkening of facial skin, loss of scalp hair and vaginal itching or discharge.
