Printers are not something consumers purchase every day. So when it comes time to make this purchase, it can seem like a difficult decision to make the right purchase. Most printers are relatively costly and are long term purchases that you will keep for years, and there are so many different types of printers to choose from, all with varying levels of technology. Almost every person today—whether child or adult, student or professional—needs a functioning printer. Because of this high demand, an increased supply was produced. Now there is a type of printer for every personality and lifestyle. And if you're looking at popular brands, such as a Dell printer, there are even more choices.

If you're a home user, you may demand a lot from a printer. There may be several different types of people using the printer for various reasons, such as a teenager printing homework, a business professional printing work documents and a child printing coloring pages. The best way to go is to choose a printer that is versatile and affordable. And because someone in the household will likely need to print in color or print photos, it is safest to get an inkjet printer. Look for a single function inkjet printer for the most affordable option, but you can also get upgraded versions with Web connectivity, cloud printing features and more. If you're concerned about the price and setup, an easier alternative would be to purchase a personal laser printer, which typically sells for around $100.

If you're a student, you're probably mostly concerned with printing your essays so you'll need a device that can spit out page after page in record speed so you won't be late for class. The best printer for this type of use would be a personal laser printer. Laser printers consume less ink per page so you will also save money in the long run by not having to purchase refills as frequently. However, if you need extra features such as the ability to fax, copy and scan, you may want to opt for a multifunction inkjet printer. It's a little pricier but it'll get the job done faster.

If you own a small business, you will benefit most from a printer that can perform a wide variety of functions such as a multifunction or all in one printer. These multipurpose devices are available in both laser and inkjet models and include all the features necessary for ultimate versatility. However, the price may increase with additional features so be sure you're only paying for features you will actually take advantage of. If you already own a fax, scanner or copier, save your money and simply purchase a printer that will fulfill your remaining printing needs such as a personal laser printer or color laser printer.
