Printers for laptops are no longer a luxury item. With the socialization of business, end of the traditional office hours, and mobile work force, it was inevitable that the devices would grow in features and popularity. Being able to print out important documents from any location has become a standard. The fact is that business is no longer transacted just in the office anymore.
There is a difference between portable and compact. The portable style resembles a modified version of the ink jet printer. They are usually smaller, yet may include a battery. They also come in wireless or wired versions. These modifications are the same for the compact version with one exception. The compact version is much smaller and easy to pack. Compact also may have a lower quality print than the portable version.
The varying prices reflect the size. In this case, the smaller the device, the higher the price. Most will range from a little more than one hundred dollars to over five hundred. The more compact devices are much easier to carry and cost more. Since the portable ones may be a little less convenient, their price remains on the lower end.
There is no real standard in battery life. Often, the more compact devices have a lower batter life. However, there are many that offer USB charging capabilities, along with traditional power cords. If battery life is the chief concern, it is best to compare choices based on the manufacturers' specification sheets. In nearly all cases, the devices will power down after a period of inactivity.
The quality often varies based on the size. Since the portable ones are not as compact, they tend to have a better printing mechanism. Their quality, while not laser, is at least as good as most ink jet printers in offices. The smaller, compact versions tend to print only in grey scale. This is more like draft quality.
Having the wireless option allows more convenience in awkward setup situations. When there is not enough space to place the printer next to the computer, the ability to connect wirelessly is a valuable option. Often, they will also include a cord for direct connection. In these cases, you can decide whether wired or wireless best suits the circumstances.
Determine the situation where the device is most needed before making the purchase. It is easy to purchase a device that later becomes a hassle. While they all serve excellent purposes, the size and other features should be considered based on your own personal needs before making the decision to buy.
Printers for laptops provide a convenient option to work away from the office and still print the necessary documents. They are reasonably priced, compact, and offer a full range of options. The price is determined by the need. Convenience over quality is not always the only choice available. Evaluate the need, then begin shopping to fulfill that need.
