Italy is home to one of the most delectable cuisines in the world. Every Italian dish is an art—the mixture of colors and shapes are as much a masterpiece for the eyes as the flavors are for the mouth. The food is also an adequate representation of Italian culture as a whole—rich, classy, and vibrant. Apart from these characteristics, Italian food is also good for the health. Below are five healthy reasons to eat Italian food: Many Italian recipes are plant-based. These dishes contain nutritious and fiber-rich ingredients such as mushrooms, tomatoes, garlic, zucchinis, beans, and grains. The addition of these items makes the recipes good sources of protein, as well as effective buffers against heart ailments. Calcium-rich cheese is also used in many Italian delicacies. There are around 400 types of Italian cheeses, all of which are made from pure and fresh animal milk that has high calcium content. Calcium has several health benefits. It makes the teeth and bones stronger, reduces the risk of high blood pressure, and prevents bone and colon cancer. Cured Italian meats are treated with natural ingredients. Chemical-based preservatives have no place in authentic Italian recipes. Italian meats are smoked, salted, and air-dried to preserve their freshness. The natural ingredients and processes are the reason why Prosciutto, salami, and other cured meats retain their richness even after several months of storage. Olive oil is a main feature in Italian recipes and Mediterranean cuisine in general. This oil is 75% monosaturated fat, making it a healthier alternative to regular cooking grease. Italian delights like Salami and pepperoni become healthier when prepared with olive oil. In addition to its health benefits, olive oil extracts the natural juices of the ingredients, improving the taste and smell of the delicacies. Italians are fond of pre-meal goodies like soups, wheat breads, and pancetta appetizers. These are low-fat dishes that prepare the taste buds for the coming courses. The combination of meat, fruits, and vegetables are well-balanced and partly filling. These appetizers are healthy yet delicious snacks that go well with other Italian dishes.
