You should be as specific as you can when it comes to setting your goals, such as writing down the exact amount of weight you want to lose; instead of simply stating that you want to be skinnier. Choose reasonable goals, but make sure they are not too easy. Also, if you do not meet your goals, do not feel bad about it, pick yourself up and work harder immediately!
