Singapore is one of those cities where you're busy, almost all the time. It's a city that is immaculately dressed, unfailingly punctual, and extremely professional. While the city does have a number of options for leisure and recreation, why not get out for a weekend? Some Singapore tour packages, that also include other South East Asian countries, do offer some great getaways to Genting, Nikoi and other destinations. If you're tired of hopping on and off planes, here are some places that you can visit over a weekend from Singapore, without having to see an airport.

Nikoi Island, Indonesia - Located just 53 miles southeast of Singapore, and just a short ferry ride away, is Nikoi Island, the kind of place that you may have just seen on computer wallpapers. In 2005, Andrew and Julia Dixon bought and developed Nikoi island into the eco-resort it is today. It is the perfect place for you to make your dream of sitting on the beach with endless blue waters before you, come true.

Bintan, Indonesia - Less remote than Nikoi, Bintan is a 90-minute ferry ride from Singapore. Singaporeans like to come here for the weekend, more to play golf than for the beach experience. Resorts catering to all budgets woo travelers to this "family-holiday" destination. While browsing Singapore packages, you may even come across some that offer a complimentary weekend in Bintan.

Malacca, Malaysia - A three hour drive into Malaysia from Singapore, you will be welcomed into the vibrant city of Malacca for a cultural extravaganza. A World Heritage Site, Malacca (Melaka) draws you into its world of architectural splendor and delectable local cuisine. Wander the historic town center, visit the Jonker Walk Night Market, and savor some delicious peranakan nonya food.

Pulau Rawa, Mayasia - A four hour drive over the Malaysian border, and a short ferry ride from Mersing brings you to the clear, blue waters and white beaches of Rawa. Enjoy a weekend of beach volleyball, swimming, snorkeling, or just simply gazing at the turquoise sea. When the waters are calm, you could rent a canoe at the resort you're staying in.

Cameron Highlands, Malaysia - If you're yearning for a little nip in the air, and winding roads up the hills, head to Cameron Highlands in Malaysia. This is a longer drive, typically around 7 to 8 hours, and if possible do it over a longer weekend. If you don't feel like driving at a stretch spend a night in Kuala Lumpur before you continue your journey. Visit the tea plantations and strawberry farms, and come back feeling refreshed.

While Nikoi, Bintan and Malacca are ideal for a two-day weekend, Pulau Rawa and Cameron Highlands are better kept for when you can take an extra day off. So pack your bags, hit the road and add some zing to your Singapore holidays.
