Thane has witnessed a huge makeover during the past few years. The cost of property in Thane has witnessed a great surge due to the genuine demand pulling it upwards. Thane is extremely well developed and a complete city in itself. Thane has a rich and proud history. It is mentioned in the works of Ptolemy a Greek philosopher in 150 AD and it is being referred as Chersonesus by him which historians believe the area near Thane creek. Copper plates dating back to Middle Ages have been found in Thane. In fact slabs belonging to 1078 AD were found near the Thane Fort during the year 1787. Marco Polo a famous Venetian traveller has visited Thane in the year 1290 AD and has written about the place describing it a well- developed port where there is a huge traffic of ships exporting cotton and leather and importing high quality horses. As a matter of fact today’s Ghodbunder area is believed to be the place where the horses from the visiting ships were unloaded. The Thane municipal council was founded in the year 1863 by the then British administration which made Thane as the district headquarters and the population of Thane during that period was 9000. So if you are going to buy a property in Thane you could be proud of the fact that you are a part of a famous town which has historical importance.
Post independence Thane grew very slowly and became an industrial town in the late 1960s. The infrastructure and commerce in the town picked up during the 80s and then the real estate market speeded up. And today people are queuing up to buy flats in Thane and it is the most preferred residential location around Mumbai.
