Flooring is done primarily to enhance the aesthetic looks of the interiors of a home or office setup. There are a number of materials that have emerged in the recent past due to the growth of technology which are being use widely for flooring but none of the materials has actually been able to outdo the market of wooden flooring. In the olden days, in the British houses, floating floor was one of the primary choices of the people opting for flooring. By the name of it, many people might confuse the floating flooring with a type of material used for flooring but instead it is a flooring method where the flooring boards do not get glued or fixed into the subfloor but instead maintain a distance from the subflooring. The question arises, then how to the planks of flooring hold themselves together? Well, it is the magic of the manner in which the floors are joined together which allows them to float over the subflooring surface. Now, there are different types of floating timber floors depending upon the manner and mechanism in which they are held together. The foremost method is the glued together planks. The wooden planks are held together with a special adhesive and the planks are stuck together in such a manner so that they exert high sideways pressure on each other. Another important technique is the click together technique also known as the tongue and groove or enter click technique. In this technique, the edges of the planks are designed in such a fashion that they fit into each other strongly. This method does not require any adhesive and therefore can be accomplished very fast and easy. In the recent past, a newer method called the lock and fold method has been introduced which has been proved to be the fastest and the most hassle free. This system does not require any special edging on the planks, nor is there a use of the adhesives. The planks are instead attached together with the help of a special milled interlocking system. The floating flooring method has remained to be one of the most hassle free method of flooring given the fact that it is very fast and can be accomplished by anyone with little knowledge about working with wooden flooring. It can be completed within hours. Not only does it save the time but also the money spent on human labor. There is a wide range of wood that can be fitted in the floating flooring like the hardwood, cork, bamboo etc. Floating floors have the added advantage in the areas where the humidity varies. The floating floor planks do not expand on high humidity and vice versa but instead expand and contract with the changes in humidity as a single cohesive unit keeping them well fastened.
