Is acne affecting your life to the point where you are about to give up? Ever think that maybe what you are eating is affecting how your skin looks. Stop a minute and think about what you eat on a daily basis. Is it filled with high fat, high sugar, greasy unhealthy food? This could be causing you to have acne. Your body is trying to get rid of these toxic foods through your pores and it is wreaking havoc on your face, chest, shoulders and back.
It’s time to change your diet. Diet is an integral part of the way that the body functions on a daily basis. Without proper nutrition the body functions at a lower rate, causing disease, illness and symptoms to take over the body. If the internal body is unhealthy how can you expect your skin or the external part of the body to look or feel healthy?
There are several ways to achieve younger, fresher, healthier looking skin by making simple changes in your diet. Put down that blemish cream and acne face wash. Stop taking that acne medication. Change your lifestyle and your skin will change too.
First step: Stop eating fats, oils and sugars. Oils and fats should be consumed on a minimalist structure however; most of the fast foods, and junk foods we consume are filled with them. Even many of the products that should be good for us have simple sugars in them such as white bread. This is because it’s easier and cheaper to use simple sugars, which are bad for the body and the skin. Have you ever binged on fast food or junk food and noticed your skin breakout the next day. This is because of the high fat, high sugar content in these types of foods. Not only do these foods cause acne, but they also are the leading causes of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and obesity in the US. So stop eating them. Replace these foods with healthy, natural foods such as fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads and pastas, and lean, low fat meats.
Organic produce, meats and products have been proven to be a healthy source of nutrients for the body. Switch from buying regular processed foods to organic. Organic foods lack added chemicals, and preservatives that can cause toxic affects on the body and your skin. Organic fruits and vegetables are better for the body because they do not get sprayed with pesticides or chemicals. Incorporating large quantities of fruits and vegetables in your diet will ensure your body and skin are getting all of the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that it needs to maintain health. Additionally, organic meats are usually leaner because the fat content is lower. Low fat meats and poultry are better for the body because they can easily be broken down and used where as high fat meats are stored by the body in fat storages.
The next step is to determine if you are receiving enough of the essential vitamin and minerals that the body requires on a daily basis. Although it is recommended to get your daily dose of vitamins minerals and amino acids through your food, not everyone does. Not to mention that if you had a poor diet for a long period of time, it will take twice as long for the body to recover from being without the proper nutrients. Supplements and supports can help return the body to health by bombarding and overloading the system with vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. Remember to check the nutritional label on the vitamin brand you choose. Just like food products pharmaceutical companies use additives, preservatives and food dyes to complete their supplements. These types of vitamins are not easily broken down by the body and will stay in your digestive tract for years. It is better to go with a brand that has no preservatives or additives because you know that your body will easily break down all the nutrients within he supplement. Always look for a supplement that has Vitamin E. Vitamin E is vital to the health of skin, hair and nails (the Integumentary system). If you have concerns check with your primary doctor for recommendations.
In addition to proper nutrition and supplementation, your skin needs proper hydration. Most people have heard that they need to drink 8, 8 ounce glasses of water a day, but most people don’t do it. Our bodies are made up of 75% water, thus the need to continually replenish your water levels. Properly hydrated skin looks young, glowing and fresh where as dehydrated skin is dull, ashy, flaky, itchy, and excessively dry. Replace soda, and sugary sports drinks with water. If you have an adversity to water because it has no taste, add a slice of lemon or lime to it. Citrus fruits are natural antioxidants, which help keep the skin clear and fresh. Always keep a water bottle with you wherever you go that way you keep your body hydrated consistently.
Treating acne is just like treating any other condition that arises throughout the body. Normal acne treatments are applied to the skin or face but this just treats the symptoms of acne, the pimples. Treat the cause of the problem and not the symptoms. Look at the changes in your health that can clean and clear your face of acne forever.
