Forensics is a part of science in which all the facts, evidences are collected for analyzing and interpreting the data which is further represented for legal proceedings in the court and this work is done by a Forensic engineer. They are those who investigate about the structures, material used and products applied which are liable for the loss of property and life. They work on civil cases like the building collapsed and many people died, so their job is to investigate that what was the reason behind the collapsation of the building. They will investigate on the material which was used in the making of that building, was the structure right, the design was accurate, the facts about the people who worked on it. They are generally involved in civil cases but sometimes get into the criminal cases also. They try to locate the causes behind the failure of a component or try to find out the reasons of how to improve the performance of that component. Their investigation involves measuring objects, inspections, developing models, collecting evidence and performing experiments. They apply scientific methodology. They work in either government or independent laboratories in which they can do their investigation and can perform experiments. They have to follow the protocol and strict procedures so as to protect the evidences from being tampered and destroyed as they have to work on the most important and critical part of the investigation. As said,” People can lie but evidences cannot”. So they have to maintain this notion and represent the facts in the court which helps in taking the decision at the right time, right place and in the favor of the innocent one. To become a forensic engineer you will have to hold a 4-year degree in engineering and can go ahead for the process to certify your specialty in Forensic engineering. This is a process in which you have to show your experience which you have gained in Technical knowledge and forensic engineering and complete the oral and written examination.
