Ah the great meditation practice killer: Boredom. It sneaks up oh so silently, without warning.

One minute you're meditating and the next you wish you weren't sitting your beautiful darrier on that pretty meditation cushion.

What started out as the purest of intentions to connect to inner peace has turned into a colorless continuation of monotonous moments.

All of a sudden the intention of relaxing into your self turns into, "To hell with this ish! I got better things to do." And just like that, that day's practice has gone down the drain.
Believe me, you are not alone. Boredom is the number one killer of a meditation practice. Just ask this guy.

But one thing you (and the rest of the bored beauties of the world) may be forgetting is, boredom is just another emotion.

If you're bored while you're meditating, handle it like you would any other negative emotion: observe it.

Clinging to the feeling and talking to yourself about how you could be doing something other than sitting there, is pulling you away from your practice. It's making these fifteen to twenty minutes a waste of time.

And why waste time? You're a busy woman. You ain't got time for that.

Four Ways To Get Over Boredom While Meditating

1. Recenter yourself. Okay, so your mind is coming up with all sorts of other things you could be doing besides sitting here. Rather than go back and forth with those thoughts, use this moment to strengthen your practice. Go back to your focus. If you use your breath as your center, refocus on your breath. If it's a feeling, go there. If it's a chakra, sit there. Relax deeper into who you are, and settle into your practice. This is just another opportunity to practice the art of allowing. Allow.

2. If this doesn't work, go back to your 'Why.' You started meditating because of a damn good reason. Go back to it. Remind yourself why you began this daily practice. Remind yourself what you're trying to accomplish.

3. Get up and stretch. Okay, so your 'why' and refocusing aren't working. Take a quick break off of your spot and stretch. Touch your toes, stretch up to the sky. Take five minutes to get all of that bored, restless energy out of you, then start over, getting back into your practice. Stretching is a beautiful way of 'resetting' your mind and body to start over.

4. If all else fails, and you can't stop the thoughts, give it a go later on. There are times where meditation just isn't in the cards, but that doesn't mean it won't be later on. Reschedule for later on in the day, or even get back to your practice the next day. Just don't stop! Just like any other emotion, the boredom passes, and you get to the point where you're experiencing the most amazing, blissful feeling in the world.

Manifesting. It's one of those words that people are using a lot thanks to the slew of new books, infomercials, and movies that proclaim that nothing is earned and nothing is worked for, rather things "manifest" in one's life - as long as they "ask" or "think" the right things. Want a car? Visualize it. Think about it. Feel it. And then ... *BAM* ... It will "manifest" in your life. How about a million dollars? No problem! Once again, visualize it and feel it, and then ... *P
