FRACTIONAL C02 LASER: Treatment of choice for acne scars

Acne can often leave behind unsightly scars that remain for life. Fortunately, modern-day medicine and science have progressed by leaps and bounds over the past few decades and we now have numerous options to treat such scars. One of the best options available to us at present would undoubtedly be fractional c02 laser resurfacing of acne scars. Fractional Laser Resurfacing removes layers of skin tissue in a fractionated method (columns of skin are removed, leaving the skin surrounding each column intact to aid in healing), which allows for faster healing of the skin. With this, the laser stimulates and induces the generation of new, healthy collagen to smooth out the acne scars. Results will depend on the degree of scarring and the intensity of treatment sessions. Patients will require a couple of sessions with improvement being noticed even after the first session, and goes on even 6 months after the last session due to ongoing collagen remodelling. It is generally a pain-free experience as a topical numbing cream is applied 30 to 40 mins over the treatment area prior to the procedure. Post-procedure instructions range from a few topical creams that should be applied as advised and strict sun protection.
