Unfortunately there are some people who are meant to hack your ecommerce merchant accounts. As a business owner, it is wise to foresee these things because this could make the whole venture become unsuccessful. Because of the internet environment wherein the customer is not visually present during the transaction, it is now a target of fraudulent acts. It is wise to be aware of certain characteristics that one should consider to take into consideration the authenticity of a transaction happening on your website. If one is only present is in the transaction, it could be legitimate. However if two or more characteristics are seen, it is an indicator that it might be a fraud. In ecommerce, it is quite normal to deal with a lot of first time shoppers. This is essential to let the business grow. There are also a lot of people bound to do fraud acts that are also a first timer in a said website. After getting money from one website, they move on to the next. A person using a stolen credit card will take advantage of it so they will make bulk orders. As a merchant, watch out for this tactic because it is a sign of fraud acts. A similar tactic is to purchase several products of the same kind. Ecommerce merchant accounts that sell big ticket items are prone to fraud because of the high resale value of the items. They also don’t care about the shipping charges because they are not using their money to pay for the stuff. Most of them are attracted to ove ight shipping. Most fraud acts are coming from International orders since they are not covered with address verification system. Check also their account numbers. If they are similar then it is probably fraudulent act. Consider also the address. If it’s similar orders with one address, then there is something wrong with the transaction.
