Frizzy hair can be a women’s worst nightmare. Whatever type of hair you have long; short, curly or straight, frizzy hair can turn a good hair day to bad in an instant. Frizzy hair can be the cause of dry or coarse hair that swells when it pulls humidity from the air. It can also be caused by the use of certain hair styling machines or products. In either case it causes the cuticles on the outer layer of a hair strand to stand up causing hair to look frizzy. Frizzy hair is unpleasant and unsightly, which is why most of us are looking for ways to tame our mane. Follow these tips throughout your hair care routine to better reduce the occurrence of frizzy hair. 1. Only wash your hair a few times a weekrnIf you get frizzy hair regularly then consider only washing your hair a few times a week. When you shampoo your hair it not only removes dirt, but it also removes your hairs natural oils. The natural oils your body creates are natural frizz fighters, but by removing them you expose your hair to humidity and frizziness. Instead of washing your hair daily, skip a couple of days in between shampooing. If your hair feels dirty or oily use a dry shampoo. 2. Rinse with cold waterrnAfter washing your hair with shampoo and conditioner rinse your hair with cold water, the coldest water you can stand. The cold water locks down the cuticle, the outer layer of a hair strand. This makes hair appear slicker and you have less chance that it will frizz up. 3. Don’t towel dryrnIt’s natural to want to towel dry your hair after you get out of the shower. Your hair holds excess water that can drip on your body and clothes. However not everyone has the time to allow their hair to air dry. When you towel dry your hair you rough up the cuticles, so they don’t lie flat, causing frizzy hair. Instead wrap hair in a towel and gently press the water out. Micro fiber towels are super absorbent wand will absorb all the excess water. 4. Finger comb wet hairrnAfter you wash your hair don’t use a brush or comb to detangle your hair. Brushes and combs stretch hair, which can lead to breakage. After washing your hair run your fingers through your wet hair. Finger combing works just as well at detangling hair but adds less pull o the hair shaft. This causes less stretch and less damage to hair, which reduces frizz. 5. Don’t over process, use a conditionerrnOnce hair is clean you need to minimize the product you use in your hair. Relaxers and straightening products can make hair brittle which leads to breakage and frizziness. Instead when hair is wet apply a leave in conditioner to moisturize the hair and flatten the cuticles out. 6. Avoid overheatingrnHeating appliances dry out hair. They suck out all the moisture and natural oils from hair. Limit using blow dryers, flat irons and curling irons to avoid frizzing. 7. Blow-dry by methodrnWhen you do use a blow dryer, for whatever reason, there is a very specific way you should blow-dry your hair. Learning how to blow dry your hair may take some time. By using a round brush you can smooth down your hair as you dry it. Divide hair into sections and dry each section at a time. Always blow down the hair strands start at the top of the head to the ends of your hair. This is how professional hairdressers do it. If you dry your hair by blowing the air up and down it causes the cuticle to frizz and split. 8. Dry only the roots of your hairrnIf you’re concerned about having wet hair, then blow-dry just the roots to reduce your chance of frizz. This will lift your hair but avoid dry out the shaft and tips of your hair. 9. Ionic blow dryerrnUsing an ionic blow dryer can make the difference to helping you cut down on frizz. Ionic blow dryer uses half the heat in half the time, because it emits charged particles called ions that bond to your hair. This compresses the cuticle locking out moisture causing frizz. By drying the hair quicker, you reduce frizz and leave your hair fuller and shinier. 10. Hot curling ironrnWith coarse hair, use a hot curling iron to smooth out hair. Coarse hair is generally dry. When ironed it becomes shiny and smooth. 11. Don’t brush dry hairrnBrushing dry hair disrupts the hair cuticle. It stretches hair, which leads to breakage. Comb dry hair with wet fingers. By adding water to dry hair you avoid stretching, pulling or damaging hair. 12. Talk to your stylistrnWhen you get your hair cut, colored, or styled you go to a professional. Stylists aren’t there to just cut your hair; they are there to help you with how to manage your hair care. They are a vast pit of knowledge about all the hair care do’s and don’ts. They can give you valuable tips on how to reduce prevent and eliminate frizz.
