“Thomas Keating the Trappist Monk had a Profound Change take Place”

The Christian Trappist monk Thomas Keating understood the value of meditation. And Thomas had a profound change take place when he started meditating.

Christian monastic life can be very hard as one tries to get closer to God. It’s was hard until one day the Dalai Lama came to visit Thomas Keating and his life changed in very short time.

He finally understood that what the bible was talking about when it said “Contemplation” was “Meditation” and thus this one word changed everything. In fact, Thomas Keating was a disciplined taskmaster over all the other monks at the monastery.

But with his first taste of true meditation, all of that melted away and he understood that our connection to God comes from within… not forced in some contrived way.

Perhaps for the first time in his life, he had a personal inner experience of God. And from that point on he had all the monks at the monastery doing meditation. Thomas Keating said that “Contemplation” was not the right word, what they were talking about was “Meditation”.

And Thomas Keating put together with the help of friends a meditation called “Centering Prayer” which was true meditation. You can find many videos of Thomas Keating teaching “Centering Prayer” on Youtube. Here is a link to one of those videos - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IKpFHfNdnE

I highly recommend learning meditation - it will allow you to personally experience God, Great Spirit, and the Oneness of Everything.
