Improper diet may lead you to many lethal health issues, cancer being only one of them. According to American Cancer Society, one-third of cancer deaths are linked to poor diet, physical inactivity, and carrying excess weight. The deadliest of the elements of a regular American diet today is fructose. The authors of a study published in Cancer Research note:
“Importantly, fructose and glucose metabolism are quite different ... These findings show that cancer cells can readily metabolize fructose to increase proliferation."
Dr. Otto Warburg, the Nobel laureate of 1931, was the first scientist ever to point out that there are fundamental differences between the energy metabolism of healthy and malignant (cancer) cells. Further researches confirmed that:
"…Cancer cells readily utilize fructose to support proliferation and preferentially use fructose for nucleic acid synthesis."
Fructose is a simple, monosaccharide sugar which can take a heavy toll on your health. Malignant tumor cells prefer to use fructose as a fuel during their metabolism. The process creates lactic acid as a by-product which is accumulated in the liver. The large build-up of lactic acid lowers increases acidity in cancerous tissues and causes fatigue. This mechanism is extremely energy-wasting as it extracts only 5 percent of energy from the food. And this is not all! Fructose is found to contribute further to cancer by increasing reactive oxygen species (free radicals), damaging DNA and producing inflammations. On the contrary, nearly every healthy cell in your body can use glucose for metabolism without serving to most of these vicious ends.
Today, fructose is present in five of the top-ten sources of calories in America. The majority of Americans use it at extremely dangerous levels. If you really want to avoid or prevent cancer, you total intake of fructose must never exceed 25 grams a day. But for most of the people, suffering from one or more of the chronic diseases, the consumption should be further limited to 15 grams per day.
Alternatively, you can use stevia which is not only safe and almost calorie-free, but is many times sweeter than sugar as well. Dextrose or pure sugar is also a good option. Although it is less sweet and you have to use it a little more than other sugars, it is worth your health. Daily exercise, meditation, adequate, peaceful sleep and an optimized level of vitami
D in your body also contribute a lot to check the development of malignant tumors in your body.
