I’ve always thought everyone is a little weird, or at least everyone has a weird quirk or two. I owned up to my weirdness long ago. If you don’t believe me ask my high school classmates about my white and green striped jumpsuit or my giant 85 dangle earrings. You may think that being weird is fine when you’re in the company of friends and family but how do you see it fitting into your business? I see it as a great way to magnetize more clients, money, ideal team members and especially fun! You can decide how far you want to take it. Ideally, you want to inject enough weirdness to be fun but not so over the top that you freak people out. I let my weirdness shine in team meetings, in client interactions, my videos, the names of my programs and products and in the subject lines of my emails. Expressing your interesting quirks is part of being an authentic businessperson, which is highly attractive to your ideal target market and team. The fun you create by being a ‘little out there on the edge’ will separate you from the rest of the pack. In fact, the more fully expressed you are the faster your business will grow. Why? Because it frees of up your creative energy and allows you to live at full throttle. I recently got living proof of the impact of injecting ‘fun and a little weirdness’ into everyday business operations when I took a tour of Zappos.com. Zappos went from zero revenue to $1 Billion in ten years. Their CEO, Tony Hsieh, lets it all hang out for the world to see. His book, Delivering Happiness, the yearly Zappos Culture Book and the Zappos blogs give us the inside scoop to all that happens in Zappos. Zappos trusts that the more honest and upfront they are with what they are about, the more raving fans they have. It works. They are ranked sixth in the top 100 companies to work for by Fortune. Why? Because they are fun, innovative, generous and weird. And they live their company values on a daily basis; they are not just words posted on their website. I am working on stretching myself even farther in the fun and outrageous department in my business. I know it paves the way to freedom and abundance in many ways. I’m not going to be weird just to be weird. I’m just going to more conscious of letting go of being ‘professional’ and being more of my fabulously unique self. It works and it’s highly attractive to my ideal peeps.
