Holding a fundraiser can be a great opportunity to get the money needed for special projects. Fundraisers are held virtually by any group that needs capital for an event, or any other reason. Many youth groups use them to fund their mission trips. Schools are another group that's constantly using fundraisers to improve on their athletic and arts departments. While it is an extremely effective method of raising funds quickly, not all of them are a smashing success. Fundraisers need to offer something of great value to the community in order to be successful. No one is going to buy junk even if it is for a good cause. So it's important for the planner of the fundraiser to be aware of this, and try their best effort at offering the public something of value. This, of course, is where the creativity sets in. Cookies, bake sales, car washes are all tried and true methods. The public is certainly expecting them. For those that really want to up the ante, they'll need to be a little more intuitive. Discount Cards Perhaps, the most underutilized fundraising idea for schools and youth groups is discount cards. This one takes a little bit of leg work initially, but the rewards can be huge. The first step is to approach local businesses such as auto shops, pizza places, and the like to see if they'd be willing to offer a good discount on a card. Most of them will jump at the idea, because they know that by having customers walk in their door they're more likely to build new relationships with them. Once they've agreed to honour a discount, get them printed out on a sturdy card to sell to the public. It's a good idea to add the name of the group on the card as well. This will help raise awareness throughout the public for any future donations. A thousand of these cards might cost the same as a good oil change. The rest is money to be spent on the cause. Raffles Raffles are another great way to leverage resources. Again, offering something the public would definitely like to have will do wonders for these raffles. The group would decide on what to offer, and then limit the number of tickets being sold. Then it's just a matter of getting the word out quickly through television, radio, newspaper, and any other means. With a little creative advertising, the school could have all the funds they need practically overnight. These here are a couple of less obvious choices. They are, however, very effective fundraising ideas to secure the money quickly. Coincidentally, they are also things that the public loves. By offering them something they actually want, youth groups and schools will have no problem getting their plans funded.
