Castors are used for thousands of applications, and there are thousands of various castors on the market that can be purchased in different shapes, sizes, colors, materials, and specifications. Many castors are produced for specific applications. Today we are going to talk about furniture castors, but before we do, let’s explain what a castor is in case it’s not ringing a bell to you right now. The castor is that tiny little wheel you see mounted on a wide range of equipment to move heavy items from one place to another. These small wheels serve a mighty purpose, but it is important that you know which castor to buy for which application.
You don’t want to use just any old castor on your home, or office furniture. Different flooring types call for different castors. If you have carpeting in your home or office then you want to use a set of castors that will perform well on that floor type. If you have hard flooring in your home or office, then you would want a set of castors to meet those expectations. So, which castors are best for the carpeting, and which is best for the hard floors? Let’s give you a few options to consider.
The best castor option for low pile carpeting in the office, or home is twin wheeled nylon castors. These types of castors will perform well on carpeting. Larger tires work better on carpeting as well. If you have hard wood flooring types, then a soft rubber or polyurethane tire would be the way to go. There are many different hard floor types that include:
Hardwood
Marble
Cementr
Ceramic tile
These soft tire castors will not damage your hard flooring and are very easy to maneuver. Now that we know which Castors to use for which floor type, what kind of furniture would utilize castors in the office or the home?
Let’s start with your home. The refrigerator and dishwasher in your home can be equipped with castors. A microwave cart might have a set of Castors as well. Keep in mind that castors assist you in moving heavy items, often for the purpose of cleaning, but for production purposes as well. Moving into the living room you can find numerous items that could be equipped with castors. Some of the possibilities might include:
Sofa
Reclinerr
Love seatr
Entertainment centerr
China closetr
Pianor
Coffee tabler
Dining tables
That is quite a few different items, and we probably missed a few. In your bedroom a dresser or bed frame could be on castors. Some furniture already comes with castors equipped, but you can easily buy these types of castors and mount them on your furniture.
In the office or work place desks, desk chairs, waiting room sofas, and chairs will often be equipped with furniture castors. Sometimes you can even find an old file cabinet with castors. Castors on your furniture make them easier to move around the home or office, just make sure they are the right ones for your flooring type.
