Charities provide an astounding range of valuable services to our communities, ranging from medical research to overcome cancer, providing humanitarian aid in a crisis, to providing carers in the community, the scope is endless. The common challenge all charities face is finding the funds, the money that allows them to perform their work. Future Leaders In Philanthropy have a plan and anyone can join them in raising the awareness of young adults and in local communities of what charities do, their benefits to society and how to be a key person in the charity by raising the funds it will always need.

The FLIP charity is inviting applications from young adults who are about to embark on their A-level studies and enter year 12 at school. What they offer is a unique form of internship and training that will take place over the course of Years 12 & 13 and the first year of university studies in which you will learn how to raise those funds that are critical to a charity’s success.

In the FLIP charity training programme students will work with a financial mentor to create and manage a virtual investment portfolio over three years, for a virtual charity of their creation. Throughout the training programme students will also actively raise funds for a charity that is important to them. Throughout the internship students will come to understand the challenges that charities face and how they can be overcome; students will be required to suggest a project that is suitable and beneficial for research funding.

Research is very dependent on its results and its funds. At FLIP, mentors will work and teach students how to manage a virtual fund portfolio using the techniques and knowledge applied in the real world so that a research project can be carried out and its benefits realised. Students will also get full hands-on experience in actually raising funds and working in the community for a real charity and create a business plan for their own virtual charity.

For students that are selected to join Future Leaders in Philanthropy as an intern, as well as receiving the training, they also operate an incentivisation plan that will reward students and charities in the community. Students are asked to raise a target sum for their charities (this year it is £40,000) and which the Bonita Trust will match, and also reward students for their achievements.

All that is asked is that, if you are an interested student, you submit an application form to FLIP for consideration; there are 20 internships available this year!

Is there a downside to this? -- Flip does not believe that there is. As an intern, your knowledge of raising and managing funds will be significant, you will work with a financial mentor from Credit Suisse, you will work alongside colleagues in real charities and see what a difference you can make. In short you will have something special to add to your CV and you will benefit from a raised social awareness and knowledge of how charities contribute so much to the lives and quality of life in our communities.
