This past year nearly 50 billion dollars were spent on weight loss products but Americans are losing the battle of the bulge. According to the CDC the average American man weighed 166.3 pounds but now the average is 189.8 pounds. The average American woman in 1960 weighed 140.2 pounds but now weighs 162.9 pounds.

It seems like the more we spend on weight loss products, the more we Americans weigh. Why is that? The reason is because the companies who produce weight loss products aren't interested in anyone losing weight. They are interested in making money from your battle over weight. They don't want you to maintain a healthy weight. They want you to perpetually yo-yo diet so that you'll continue to buy their products. In the process the only place we're losing weight is in our wallets.

We didn't put on those extra pounds over night. (If you have gained an excessive amount of weight ove
ight, you're got some serious health issues, so you need to get to a doctor quickly!) Our weight gain has occurred over a period of time based on habits that promoted weight gain. The only way we are going to change that situation and keep weight off is by creating habits that promote a healthy weight maintenance. This is the topic of my upcoming book: WRAPS coming full circle in weight control.

What is WRAPS? It's an acronym for the habits that will create a more healthy, weight controlled life.

W-Water. Though there is a controversy over whether we need to be drinking 8 glasses of water every day, by drinking the water, we will see the pounds melt away and we will discover improved health.

R-Real Food. We'll be able to throw away the diet food, products and pills forever. We will discover what real food is again and will in the process of enjoying what we eat, we will lose weight.

A-Activity. We'll take the work out of workout. We will learn to play again. Becoming healthy will become fun and will no longer seem like a chore.

P-Portion Control. We will learn that we can eat what ever we want. We will learn that it's not so much what we eat but how much we eat that puts on the extra pounds.

S-Soul Cleansing. This is the most important element of all. We will learn how to rid ourselves of the unhealthy thoughts and feelings that have toxic effects on our lives and sabotage our weight control.

Creating a healthy weight for ourselves doesn't have to cost us our life savings and it doesn't have to be hard. It's just a matter of developing healthy habits. And I think that about WRAPS it up.

While I was in nursing school, I made an awesome discovery. I was studying the human cell my anatomy and physiology class and at the same time I was reading a book by J. I. Rodale about composting. When I put the two together, I was amazed. The processes human cell was astonishingly similar to the processes that occur in a compost pile. I discovered that if we surround ourselves with a variety of healthy choices, we can produce a health human body just as a compost pile can produce healthy soil that promotes healthy plants. (which by the way promotes healthy people). By including ourselves into the healthy processes that surrounds us in the earth, we are then able to grow not just physical healthy bodies but also healthy minds and healthy spirits.

It is my lifetime goal to assist others in recognizing where they fit in the universe and how they grow healthier every day.
