If you're thinking about going green and how you can make a difference, it can be somewhat overwhelming. I've changed my bulbs to CFCs now what? One group has actually got together to make a big difference in small incremental ways. Gardens of Gratitude this weekend are helping hundrends of people in LA turn their lawns, empty lots or balconies into edible gardens. If you have signed up, you can get planning advice, help through their volunteer network as well as a bunch of compost delivered to your door. I have an empty lot that we haven't been able to build on just yet and we are transforming at least part of it into a vegetable garden tomorrow. As I'll be on vacation over the summer we are going to "sheet mulch" - basically put down newspaper and compost and let the wonders of nature do their bit over the Summer ready for a Fall planting. I'm so excited! So that's what I'm up to this weekend! Take a look at their site and get in contact to see if you can kick off something similar in your neighborhood. On an unrelated note I wanted to reach out and thank everyone for their support following the loss of my father. I have since somewhat buried myself in looking after my children fulltime which has been both a revelation and a joy. I'm now looking forward to engaging with this wonderful community once more.
