Gas or Diesel RV

With camping and RV season just around the corner, you may be considering the purchase of a new RV or motor home. Gasoline engines operate by compressing the fuel, injecting air, and then igniting it with a spark. This combustion pushes the piston in the cylinder, which sends power to the drive train. By comparison gasoline RVs are cheaper, the engines do not last as long, they have less towing power, have lower fuel efficiency, and can be serviced in a standard auto shop. So what does all this mean to you and your decision? Well, here is the bottom line, for most people gasoline RVs are the better choice from a cost standpoint. The extra expense of diesel fuel and the more expensive engine just do not justify the benefits of better efficiency and longer engine life. The only exception is if you plan on owning the RV for a long time and plan on putting a significant amount of miles on it, or if you really need a lot of towing power. In these cases, the extra engine life and towing power will be worth the extra cost to you in the end.
