Just like any other institution, an alcoholism treatment center also has rules and regulations. While a particular rehab may have different rules from another one, a few basic rules are common to almost all the rehabs. Learning about these rules before you join a rehab will prepare you better for such a visit. A look into few of the basic rules and regulations of an alcoholic rehab is given below: • No alcohol – Needless to say, this is one of the most basic rules of an alcohol rehab. No form of alcohol will be permitted inside the premises of the rehab. Many rehabs will not allow for any form of intoxication, while there are a few rehabs that are open to allowing nicotine intake in case the patient suffers from nicotine addiction. However, alcohol is a big no-no, and anyone carrying the stuff will be considered an offender. • Decorum – Each rehab will have a list of basic decorum and etiquettes and all patients will be asked to follow these norms. Not disturbing the peace of other patients, not using foul language or gestures, no form of violence, etc., are some such norms. Most rehabs will state that patients will not damage any property of the rehab and if found to be doing so, will be held responsible and asked to compensate duly. • Visitors – Some rehabs do not allow visitors at all, while others are open to having patients visited by family and friends. However, these visitors need to maintain the decorum of the rehab and also visit only during the specific time allowed by the rehab. Many rehabs will not allow a visitor to go beyond a certain point in the rehab and this limitation must be followed by the visitor. • Romantic involvements – It is a fact that most rehabs will have a rule against patients getting romantically involved with each other. If patients are found in a compromising state, then action maybe taken against them. The staff and the patients of the rehab also cannot pursue any such relationship while the patient is admitted in the rehab. This rule is to ensure that ones vulnerability during the treatment is not taken undue advantage of. • Privacy – Almost all rehabs will have a rule with regard to privacy. Patients and staff members will be asked to keep all the information that they may have (by default or otherwise) about another patient, completely private. Compromising the privacy of a patient is not only considered in bad taste but can also take the offender to court. These rules and regulations go a long way in helping the patient as well as allowing the rehab to function smoothly. Each alcoholism treatment center will have its own peculiar rules and this is why, it is advisable to always read their rules before joining the rehab. Some rehabs have very strict rules and the patient may not feel comfortable with them at all. So do seek clarification on any aspect of the rehab that you are not clear with, so as to ensure a comfortable stay at the alcoholism treatment center.
