Get Back To Nature

What better way to reflect, meditate, daydream or just to take a break from a hectic lifestyle, then to retreat to your own backyard sanctuary. Get back to Nature by spending time in your garden as you prepare your soil, plant, weed and enjoy your harvest. Not only will you enjoy the beauty and fruits of your labor, but it can be therapeutic as well. This return to Nature helps you make a connection of body, mind and spirit which is necessary for healing.
Being outdoors allows you to benefit from natural vitamin D from the sun and enjoy the fresh air and fragrances of flowers and herbs that you can plant.
Visualize what you want your healing garden to look like. How would you like to feel when you are outdoors with the beauty and simplicity of your natural surroundings? What items would be necessary to allow for relaxation? Can you see yourself being cradled in the comfort of an inviting hammock or swing chair?
Where would you like your focal point to be? Do you enjoy hearing the symphonies of songs from wild birds? Create areas that will attract hummingbirds and other wild birds to your backyard. Do you delight in seeing butterflies in your garden? If space is a challenge, bring butterflies to your garden, even if it’s just a deck or patio, using containers. Using fragrant Heliotrope, coleus, or white zinnia are easy to grow and butterflies love them.
Are you interested in medicinal herbs or just enjoy experimenting with a variety of herbs? Container herbs may be just what you are looking for.
The first step to creating your own healing garden is planning. Decide what would make this space inviting and a place that you would want to retreat to. In the planning stage, be sure not to overextend yourself, by starting small. Choose just one or two of your favorite items to concentrate on. Decide if you would like others to enjoy this area as well.
If your area doesn’t allow for expansion, you may want to consider organizing a community garden. By pooling efforts, everyone can reap the benefits. Enjoy your backyard sanctuary as you soothe your soul.
