“I’m scared to death!” Have you ever felt that way as you grow your business? I know that many of you look at the ‘successful’ entrepreneurs and tell yourselves that it’s easy for ‘them’.

Are you kidding me? I do hear that a lot when people learn that I’ve taken my business from sub-zero to multiple 6 figures in less than 4 years – but easy? NO! It’s downright scary most of the time. I have come to like feeling scared because it means I am having a growth spurt.

The good news is that I have learned it is all about our comfort zones. Here’s how it happens:

1) YOU SET A GOAL. Then, you look at that goal – and realize just how BIG it is – and you scare yourself to death. So then…….

2) YOUR NEGATIVE SELF-TALK KICKS IN. You look at that big, hairy, audacious goal and you tell yourself: ‘there’s no way – I don’t have the skills – I don’t have the time – I don’t have the money – I don’t have the people”. And so then…..

3) YOU BACK UP YOUR GOAL TO CURRENT REALITY. You back it up to where you can see clearly where you’re going, HOW you are going to accomplish the goal, what resources you will use and so on.

4) AND THEN YOUR REACH THOSE GOALS THAT ARE NO FURTHER OUT THAN THE TIP OF YOUR NOSE! In which case, you ‘might’ grow a little bit this year – but not much, actually.

IS THAT YOU? Is that how you’re running your business? I know, from working with my coaching clients, that this is the truth for many of you.

YOU WILL NOT GET TOO FAR, TOO FAST, THAT WAY. You see, I know the truth. I know that you have far more potential than you are using. It is simply a matter that you don’t know what you don’t know.

I MADE A DECISION. I want to work and grow to my full potential. One of the ways I do that is to keep on learning. And I work with a high level coach to help me get there – one who has walked ahead of me and knows the ropes and has succeeded. Why reinvent the wheel?

MOST OF US GET CAUGHT IN COMFORT ZONES. It’s that simple. And when you realize that, then it’s possible to set bigger goals and keep moving forward, in leaps and bounds if that is what you want. I do. The world needs me. I want to make a big difference. I want to make a lot of money and help other women do the same – achieve financial freedom.

Wikipedia defines comfort zones as follows:

The comfort zone is a behavioral state within which a person operates in an anxiety - neutral condition, using a limited set of behaviors to deliver a steady level of performance, usually without a sense ofrisk (White 2009). A person’s personality can be described by his or her comfort zones. Highly successful persons may routinely step outside their comfort zones, to accomplish what they wish. A comfort zone is a type of mental conditioning that causes a person to create and operate mental boundaries. Such boundaries create an unfounded sense of security. Like inertia, a person who has established a comfort zone in a particular axis of his or her life, will tend to stay within that zone without stepping outside of it. To step outside their comfort zone, a person must experiment with new and different behaviors, and then experience the new and different responses that occur within their environment.

The beauty in this is that you CAN step out of your comfort zone. You CAN grow to become all that you want to become. You CAN achieve goals bigger than you ever dreamed. You CAN feel intimidated – but not stay intimidated.

The exciting part of this is that you can join me in being scared because it’s ok. It’s all part of the process.

So, starting today, I want you to take a look at your goals. Are they a real stretch for you? Do you know the ‘how’? Are they so darn reasonable that there’s not even a little sweat attached to them? Revise and update your goals – put them way out there – and then grow bigger than what scares you.

It’s possible. For you. For me. Just make the decision.
