Newcomers to classes are explorers who want to improve and protect their health. They have heard that Tai Chi and Chi Kung can be beneficial. They might or might not know that many of the exercises have been done for thousands of years. The Healing/Universal Tao of Mantak Chia and certified teachers of this International Organization such as Raven Cohan of Hollywood, FL, offer a vast palette of colorful energy-balancing exercises. Many are based on Ancient Practices and are looked at with respect to tradition. They are also improved through research that modern science offers. n n We do not carry one lineage in the Healing Tao. We look at the grand amount of teachings gathered by Mantak Chia and others. (There are thousands of choices of Chi Kung/ Nei Gung forms.) We choose a logical course of developmental approaches for improving structural alignment, easing up breath capacity, opening joints, relaxing muscles, strengthening internal organs and more. Your human anatomy will be made user-friendlier. Through focusing on patient and repetitive, yet interestingly varied lessons, we come to sense ourselves better and break old habits. We move in space more smoothly. We train to not let the little things bother us unnecessarily. We gather the most constructive and positive vocabulary to describe our journey into the land of healing the mind, body, emotions and spirit. Our senses will sharpen.
Raven teaches each class according to who is present. Newcomers are always shown basic techniques. Long time students benefit from re-learning fundamentals. There is always something fresh to be found. No two classes are alike!
Teachings are given with humor and compassion for the individual. We are independent explorers who support our unique pathways of growth. Although many of the exercises that are used come from the Taoist philosophy, rather than more of a Buddhist approach, Mantak Chia was raised as a Christian. That fact has influenced his desire to make certain that someone from any cultural and religious background can benefit from teachings that at times might seem foreign. Raven does enjoy the Taoist philosophy and integrates it into her teachings. It is asked of a new student, that they feel confident that they can listen to the teacher’s words, and adapt their own inner language for the support of their own belief systems. We love to look at our similarities! If at any time there is a question or a conce
about anything, you are encouraged to ask it at a pause between exercises or better yet, after the class.
We emphasize how to develop a body that is “sung”¡K (the Chinese word that describes soft outside but energetically powerful inside¡K “steel inside the cotton”.) In Tai Chi there is a classic expression: “invest in loss”. Lose a need to get a form learned quickly in order to most patiently build a sung body. When one is over-focusing on memorizing the steps of the form correctly we usually tense up. Let’s put aside our Western, impatient goal orientation. Raven offers to you one million corrections of everything that needs improving. (Unless you are a genius you might well need lots and lots of assistance.) Take the corrections with the love that is offered in them. If you are the type of person that has noticed in yourself any resentment when you are corrected it is probably an “authority figure” conflict that can be eliminated if you realize that you are your own best teacher. The figure at the front of the classroom only offers a third eye. It is a rare person who is not helped with an outsider’s evaluation or touch. If you don’t want to be touched, please tell your teacher!
Healing Tao /Universal Tao has a set program for training instructors. If you are interested in becoming an instructor, many hours of training are involved. It’s a joy to study with any of the nearly 1000 wonderful instructors practicing nationally and internationally who will guide you toward a goal to teach this Medical and Spiritual Chi Kung system to others. Raven Cohan is the Broward County, Florida instructor who has studied since 1981 with Healing Tao, and has a background in movement practices dating back to 1951 and spiritual practices which began in 1964. She is happy to share alchemical formulas that reveal nectars abundantly found inside our own bodies.
To best enjoy the class, please come on time or early rather than late. (Yet, if you must be late you are welcomed. Take some time to calm down and do a few warm ups on your own, and step into formation.) Wear loose, comfortable and modest clothes. Shoes that help you to feel your feet easily, are soft soled, have no arch support and allow your feet to breath. Your socks or bare feet will be fine. When you are on your way to class, start getting in the mood for becoming better able to know how to heal yourself. Begin tuning in to receiving a nice flow of Chi in the classroom. Be Certain To Take Home Fliers To Support Your Practice! WELCOME! WELCOME! WELCOME! WELCOME!
