Acne vulgaris sounds like a horrible acne condition doesn't it? As if normal pimples aren't enough, add the word vulgaris when you are trying to get rid of acne, and it seems to become something much worse. The word vulgaris brings to mind the word vulgar and vulgar can easily be used to describe the breakouts to many of us that have ever suffered with them. However, the word vulgaris is actually a Latin word that means common, and dermatologists usually refer to teenage acne as acne vulgaris. Acne vulgaris is actually just a fancy term for pimples, zits, blackhead, and whiteheads and common acne makes a lot more sense when you consider the millions that deal with acne every single day. Those of us that deal with pimples often suffer many physical and sometimes psychological problems associated with acne. Acne leaves scars not only on your face and body, but also on your self-esteem and more seriously your whole personality. Trying to get rid of acne can seem like the fight of your life, and for some people it is because it becomes something they suffer with throughout teenage years and well into their adult life. When you become informed about your skin condition, the task of getting rid of acne seems more attainable. The first step is to realize that not every acne treatment works for everyone. The skin is a complex part of the body and each person will need to deal with acne in the way that works for them; not what works for your friends or for those people you see with clear skin in magazines. Sure, those methods might work just fine for you to get rid of acne, but if they don't work for you it's not because you have some strange type of acne that can't be cleared. It just means that your acne doesn't respond to that treatment and you need to consider using something different. Do research and read reviews on the acne treatments you are considering to help avoid wasting time on something that is all hype or has unwanted side effects. If you have severe acne, often including acne cysts instead of just the normal whiteheads and blackheads, then you need to see a doctor to get rid of acne. This type of acne usually cannot be treated with over the counter medications. Sometimes people with less than serious acne choose to see a doctor because they get overwhelmed with all the acne treatment choices available. If you choose to see a doctor, remember that they should help inform you of the best over the counter treatments for your acne as well as offer you prescribed options if needed. It's easy to get overwhelmed and confused with all the products out there to get rid of acne. It always important to follow the instructions on each treatment option and don't give up if you don't see results in a day or two. All treatments take time to work and in the end your skin will thank you.
