All too readily people who want to lose weight turn to diets only that in terms of keeping a healthy body and mind doesn’t address body needs effectively. Fact is a weight plan should incorporate diet and exercise to ensure a well balanced approach to a sound mind and body. Too much focus tends to be put on the diet and not enough on the exercise. More often than not it’s because the exercise part is considered by many to be an undesirable chore, especially if not inclined to go to a gym or a keep fit class. The good news is that exercise doesn’t have to take a lot of effort nor need it cost much, if anything at all. There are easy ways to burn calories and enjoy it at the same time. It only takes a little thought, some common sense and effort. The results will soon be noticeable and the feeling of well-being much improved. If you are a busy Mum and have a school run and distance is not an issue, consider cycling or walking. Aside from the calorie burn, you’ll avoid the stress of traffic and parking plus it is great exercise for the children. If you bus or tube to work, consider getting off a stop or two earlier. You will arrive at the office feeling much more energized and awake. Again, if distance isn’t a problem, invest in a bike and cycle to work. With so many cycle lanes in place nowadays, it is a safe and pleasurable mode of transport and on weekends, a bike ride in the park or along a riverside with friends or partner is good fun. Another inexpensive investment is an exercise ball. You don’t have to exercise to use it – just sitting on it instead of a chair will require constant subtle movement to retain your balance and that is all grist to the calorie burning mill. Simple things like household chores are good calorie burners. Not only will they provide exercise, you’ll also have a particularly clean house to be proud of! Do housework to your favorite music – nothing beats a good bop whilst you’re hoovering – you see, household tasks need never be boring chores when there is music to do them by. Think about other domestic chores and adapt them into your exercise regime. If you tend to take your car to the car wash, do it by hand instead. Take up gardening, mow the lawn more often, and clean the windows. Not only will you see more clearly, you’ll keep those calories burning. Have a dog? Take it for an extra walk or a longer walk. And if you don’t have one, borrow a neighbors! They might appreciate it – the dog certainly will. Dog walking is a good way to meet people that makes it a doubly pleasurable form of exercise! If you like talking on the phone, do it standing up or better still, walk around while you are talking. If you need a pint of milk, don’t jump in the car, walk to the corner shop instead. And on a cold, miserable, rainy day when all you want to do is stay in bed, then have sex – not only is it good exercise, it’s also fun!! A little engagement of the little grey cells can turn most forms of required movement into a form of exercise. All in all, go on the diet but ensure you get your body moving as well because the combination of both diet and exercise will produce the best results. Feel good and look good with minimal effort!
