Everyone should get an eye test in every two years, irrespective of their age or gender. The test usually takes around 30 minutes. Along with the detailed eye test, the optometrist will check if your eyes are healthy and look for sign of eye disease. Hence, given any situation, one should give his/her eyes a regular check up.
At the start of the eye test you will be asked a series of questions, such as: Do you wear glasses? Do you wear contact lenses? Next you are asked about your general medical history, current medication, complications with your visionary skills, individually and in your family etc.
• Retinoscopy
The procedure begins with this stage, where you are placed in a darkened room where you will be asked to stare at a target. The optometrist will then shine a light into your eyes to see the way your eyes reflect light when different lenses are passed in front of them.
• Refraction
Next in the order comes the refraction test. This test works on the evaluation provided by retinoscopy and tunes the estimation. An instrument is put in front of your eyes and you will be asked which of each choice of two lenses looks clearer. The optometrist determines the long-sightedness or short-sightedness in the light of the results provided.
• Visual acuity test
Once these tests are complete you will have the visual acuity test, which is most well-known eye test. This test involves looking at an eye chart, usually of varying sized letters and you must read them aloud. In Other tests the subject of examination may undergo a comprehensive eye test that includes the perimetry test, which measures your peripheral vision and involves flashing lights in your periphery of your vision while you stare at a light, and the cover test, where your eyes will be alte
ately covered while you focus on a distant object.
• Color vision testr
In the final stage, the optometrist checks your color vision. In this eye test you are asked to look at numbers fabricated of dots against a background of dots of a disce
ing color. Patients with normal color vision will see the number as it is meant to be, while those with color blindness may see a different number or even no number at all.
