Getting into Civil Services

It is the aim of many people graduating from school to be able to pass CSAT and IAS prelims requirements and be selected to civil services jobs. The high demand for the jobs has resulted in a flood of candidates taking the examination each year thus leading to stiffer completion. For candidate keen on joining the civil services it is important to know what is required to be able to get in to civil services. Ways to get in to the civil services:rnThere are two ways a candidate could enter the civil services namely Fast stream and national press where graduates can be recruited directly. Some independent commissions and agency’s that fall under the civil services can also select candidates directly. It is important to understand each method of getting in to the civil services before hand so as to give yourself the best chance of being selected. Fast stream:rnFast stream required a basic 2:2 degree meaning only people with the requirements are eligible for the post. For candidates that may have achieved the 2:2 degree the chances of being selected directly are far higher and it gives them and opportunity to apply for managerial posts in the civil services. They must under go training in different field to be able to be shortlisted for any suitable posts. Direct Entry:rnIn this method the candidates are expected to qualify by being able to pass csat and ias prelims to be able to be selected for civil services. This is a more direct approach but means that the candidates need to qualify by achieving the required marks after attending competitive examination. It has been noted that candidate require to be well prepared for the examinations since the civil services recruitment attracts the best graduates from across the nation. This makes it important for the graduates to have the required knowledge and training concerning civil services entrance exams. It has also been noted that some government department like the armed forces and military or police could recruit candidates directly. They are still required to have graduated if they intend on getting civil services within the forces. But they first require passing fitness tests that determine if they are capable of attaining the requirement of the force. It is important that graduates understand each of these ways of joining the civil services since some people would rather avoid taking csat and ias prelims and would rather choose other ways of being selected in to the civil services.
