Getting Mad Could Be Your Secret Weapon to Your Weight Loss Results

I truly believe at the root of every person is the desire to be healthy and have more energy. There is a desire to look at yourself in the mirror, stand tall and proud with shoulders back and head held high, excited of the vibrant person smiling back at you. I don't care if you are young or old, male or female; if you're working on getting in shape, a fitness model, or you have 100 pounds to lose... that desire lives within you!
So why don't more people act on it? Why do we spend so much time wishing, planning, and hoping something will change?
"I want to start living healthier, if I could only find the motivation."
Does that sound familiar? I bet it does, because I hear it from people all the time.
My first question is: What kind of motivation are you looking for? Most people can't answer that question either.
It's as if they want the Greek god of motivation to throw a 'motivation lightning bolt' down from the heavens that will smack them in the forehead and cause them to immediately hit the ground doing pushups.
I hate to break it to you - that isn't going to happen. It didn't happen for me when I was 100 pounds heavier, but I do understand how you feel. There were numerous times I wish some outside force would start my new health regimen for me- because as we all know: starting is the hardest part.
As I look back at my own journey, a surprising emotion played a huge role in helping me get started:
ANGER
Surprised? I was. I allowed my mind to go back and replay those darker days and came to that stunning realization.
Most of us would associate anger as a negative emotion. Not something to spark growth and change. But I got angry!
I was fed up with:
Being the 'funny fat guy'
Only having 3 shirts that I felt semi-comfortable inr
Having the hottest girl in school tell me "I want to meet a guy like you someday" (as she continued to date her boyfriend who treated her like garbage)
Never wanting to go on summer vacations because I may be faced with being shirtless at a poolr
This list could go on. But my point is, there has to be a time when you get mad. When you say, "I am tired of living this way. Something has to change." It is in that moment when you no longer wonder where you will find your motivation. You aren't looking to celebrity fad diets or some cheap, quick-fix gadget to give you a short term band-aid for your weight issues. You decide, "I am done living this way. I want to change my lifestyle. I want something real. I want to redefine who I am."
And you can! If I can do it, you can do it!
I truly believe anger can be a great ally if we learn how to use it constructively. It can actually be used to fuel your workouts. To stay motivated, and to bring amazing intensity to your workouts, you need someone to show you how to do it.
So are you are fed up with your current situation, tired of wanting but not doing - get mad. It might be all the motivation you need.

Moving Meditation: How Precision-Based Exercise Supports Mental and Emotional Growth
