Ayurvedic Science of Curing Skin Blushing Blushing of the face is a typical reaction or the bodily response that takes place when an individual is uneasy and self-conscious, feeling or showing anger, energized, or is going through some type of a powerful emotion. Flushing of face or a flushed face can also occur due to the presence of some types of medical problems. Both skin blushing and flushing mean the same thing and display the same kind of symptoms. By a flushed/blushed face we mean that the face suddenly goes red and is accompanied with reddening of the neck, ears and sometimes even the upper chest. To blush is common amongst all individuals and is usually prominent among those who are fair skinned and in Caucasians as the rush of blood is visible in the facial arena. Causes of Skin Blushing Some of the general causes of blushing include: • Display and feeling of extreme emotional state • Sudden rise or drop in temperature • Eating of spicy and pungent foods • Skin condition known as rosacea • Fever experienced by an individual • Too much intake of alcohol or intolerance of alcohol or alcohol abuse • Certain medications for diabetic patients • Intake of certain vitamins that are used for bringing down cholesterol such as niacin, menopause in women also known as hot flushes, which actually is due to the reduction of the hormone estrogen, and carcinoid syndrome. Prevention of Skin Blushing The best way to prevent blushing is to do away or try to avoid the factors that cause it. If foods cause your face to flush, then perhaps less consumption of such products including drinks and food could help to experience the flushed feeling. Moreover less exposure to extreme temperatures including sunlight and cold could also bring down the flushed feelings. However if there are frequent episodes of feeling flushed then it would be best to see a doctor especially if the flushed facial experience is accompanied by diarrhea or other uncomfortable and draining symptoms. Medical practitioners would usually go through a thorough medical checkup and history to determine the cause of the frequent causes of blushing. Some of the common questions you may have to take into account is if you have had the flushed feeling affecting the entire body, are there aggravating factors associated with, does it happen especially when there is alcohol intake, the number of episodes you would have had in a day / week / month etc. and other such questions.
