Five hundred can be a lot when it comes to dollars and cents, but not very much when counting calories. This low caloric intake makes the Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) Diet a daunting endeavor. Yet, the diet’s guidelines of consuming 500 calories a day is achievable and the results are huge. Following a low calorie diet plan allows the hormonal HCG drops to draw out fat sources. The body then burns through these fat reserves, thus ensuring quick weight loss in the range of 1 to 2 pounds per day. By being conscientious of your options, there is a way to get the most ‘bang’ for your calories, and lose weight quickly. Denver’s Ascent Health Center conducts the HCG diet protocol based on the research of Dr. Simeons, the originator of the Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD). When working with these guidelines, it’s helpful to think about the foods you CAN eat rather than those you CANNOT. For lean proteins choose between veal, boneless chicken breast, white fish, lobster, crab, or shrimp, grilling or broiling a 100-gram portion without the use of added fats. Fruits and vegetables are an integral part of any diet, so HCG is no exception. Consider veggies such as spinach, chard, chicory, greens, celery, onions, radishes, cucumbers, onions, asparagus, and cabbage. Bring color into the picture with fruits: tomatoes, apples, oranges, a few strawberries, or a grapefruit half. Spice any of these ingredients up any seasoning, so long as it isn’t a dressing, butter, or oil. Then wash your meals down with tea, coffee, or water. Organic grocers and international markets are great places to shop for appropriate food. Always, it’s important to remember that we are here to provide assistance in making smart choices. Between eating these nutrient-rich foods and supplemental HCG drops, your body will morph into a fat incinerator
Ascent Health Center’s Dr. Julie Marchiol continues to advocate for Dr. Simeons’s HCG research. She believes in his methods, and strives to help those in need achieve weight loss and a healthy lifestyle
