Studies have shown that one of the main reasons why so many people fail at reaching their weight loss goals is because they possess a negative attitude towards their body image. Body image is how a person sees themselves. Over the years, a persons body image decreases based on their environment, self esteem levels and the way they are treated by people around them. Overcoming the body blahs is one crucial step to seeing results with weight loss. Thinking Right Just as we can control our actions and the words from our mouth, we can control our thoughts and attitudes. The mind is like a piggy bank. If you file away positive affirmations about yourself and your goals then you are able to retrieve them whenever you want. Just the same, if our minds are filled with negative thoughts, those are the only things that remain present in our mind. Make it a goal to focus on those things you love about yourself every day. Eliminate “fat talk” from your vocabulary. No matter who you are or how lofty your fitness goals, you will find that it is possible to find one thing that you like about yourself. Use post-it notes to write down positive thoughts about you and your goals as well as affirmation quotes. Post these notes everywhere you can including the bathroom mirror, computer monitor and on the refrigerator door. When you make a habit of reading positive affirmations you will notice your overall attitude change. Visualize Your Goals No matter what goals you have life, visualization is key to turning them from dreams to a reality. Determine a reward for yourself when you reach certain weight loss goals. For example, if your initial goal is to loose 25-pounds, then decide to treat yourself at that accomplishment mark with something special. For women, it could be a spa day, for men it could be new gym equipment or a day doing something you enjoy. Clip images of the reward and post it on your refrigerator and any other surface that you regularly see. This will keep your mind focused on your goals and the rewards along the way. As you reach your goals and formulate new ones, change your dream images to meet your new goals. Stay Focused When you get to the gym or enter a workout class you can quickly become less motivated about your goals. Being surrounded by other people who are in better shape and work out with ease can be frustrating to all people who are attempting to loose substantial amounts of weight. Wherever you choose to workout, stay focused on yourself. Bring a music player and load it with your favorite songs, audio books or motivational speakers to not only make you laugh but also keep your focused during a workout. Visualize the future you when you meet your final goal. Maybe that is a thin women wearing a bikini for the first time or a muscled man asking out the girl of his dreams; whatever your dream is, focus on that while you are working out. Additionally, if you feel that you are loosing focus while you are exercising then remind yourself of the daily positive affirmations and thoughts that you regularly see on post-its throughout your day.
