Getting your home sale-ready
If you are selling your home, you have a good idea of how stressful the entire process can be. But if you are well prepared, then you don’t have to be at your wit’s end. Here is some help to make selling your home a piece of cake.
If you are prepping your home to sell, then the first thing is to inspect each and every room and make a note of all the small elements you need to attend to in terms of repair. The first impression a potential buyer gets is often the lasting one and if they are greeted with peeling paint or minor cracks in the children’s room, then you can pretty much say goodbye to a good price for your home. You need to get all of these jobs done well before you have an open house and give all the repairs the time to set to prevent anyone from thinking that you did a last minute fix up job.
In order to understand what really goes into an open house, it would be a good idea to attend one. Observe how people inspect a home and how the home itself has been prepped for others to see. When you head back, see if your home meets all the criteria that others are looking for. Besides looking after the inside of your home, you will also need to take a look at your exteriors. Stand a distance away from your home and see if you like all that is on display. If you have a picket fence, make a note of the paint. If you have planters on the patio and window sills, make sure that they have been cleaned and the plants freshly pruned. If you have metal décor as part of your exteriors, make sure they are buffed and shined and don’t look corroded and faded.
Pay a good amount of attention to your driveway as well. If there are any patches or minor potholes, get them filled. Look at all of your gutters and try and make sure there is nothing blocking it from any point. Clean it thoroughly and wash it down as well.
If you have landscaping done, take the trouble to prune bushes, clean pots, replant in places where it is needed and the like. This gives your home and the space around it an instant face lift. And finally, make sure that you have your home dusted and vacuumed on D-Day.
