Aside the fact that Ghana is a peaceful country, it boasts of several breathtaking places you can see when you are on holidays in Ghana. Below I share with you eight of such places.
Place to see# 1
The Abasua Mountain also called the praying mountain is one place less frequented by visitors on holidays to Ghana. It is about 15 km off the Kumasi-Accra road. Christians from all over the country go there to fast and pray in makeshift camps.
What stuns travelers is its wonderful landscape. The mountain is reached by means of a stair-case to the very top-where you will see rocks neatly arranged in layers. It is possible to see Kumasi from this plateau and the weather there is like being in a refrigerator all day.
Place to see#2
When President Obama was on holidays to Ghana in 2008, he went to connect with his ancestral heritage at the Cape Coast Castle at Cape Coast in the Central region of Ghana. This historical edifice was the center where slaves from other parts of West Africa were kept and prepared before they were transported to Europe and North America.
Bordered by the Atlantic sea, it reminds holiday makers of how slavery really panned out in West Africa.
Place to see #3
Another remarkable place to see is the Aburi Botanical Gardens in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Started by the Basel Missionaries from Switzerland some 500 years ago, its lush vegetation and scenery attracts nature lovers from all parts of the world-Queen Elizabeth was even there in the 1960’s.
What’s more, the garden contains a hundred year old tree which many claim to be the oldest silk tree in West Africa.
Place to see#4
If you want to be culturally awakened, then, see the garden city of Ghana-Kumasi,the commercial capital of Ghana.
Visitors on holidays to Ghana need to see the Manhyia Palace-the office of the Asantehene. Everything there is a reminder of how the Ashanti Kingdom was like during pre-colonial times.
Statutes of previous kings and queen mothers as well as other cultural insignia can be seen here.
Not far from the Asantehene’s palace is the Komfo Anokye Sword.
The famous fetish priest Okomfo Anokye planted a sacred stool near the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. After so many fruitless attempts at removing it from the earth, it remains after being there for also 700 years. Once a caterpillar tried to get it off the ground, but it disappeared, only to reappear there some days later.
It is believed to bind the spirit of Ashanti’s together.
Place to see#5
The other famous place to see on holidays to Ghana is the Mountain Afadjato
