Rats and mice are a part of rural life and although you have to accept that you are always going to be sharing an element of your space with them, there are ways of keeping them out of sight as much as possible, if you struggle to deal with vermin. Most farm properties have a barn or outbuildings which are great for storage but don’t be tempted to store any spare food supplies outside if you can help it. Not only will you be offering a free meal to unwelcome strangers but you will also be encouraging them to hang around and before long, you could have a chance encounter with a furry friend who is not that pleasant. Open fires Being in the country has many perks and one of the best pleasures is being able to light up a roaring fire using wood that you have collected and chopped yourself. There is nothing more satisfying than snuggling up beside a romantic log fire and reminding each other about how lucky you are to be living in the sticks.
