Although we live in an instant world where information is available at our fingertips and we have the option to carry around devices that keep us in immediate contact with others, the real things, the really good things take time. The steps to get the good things in life haven’t really changed at all. We need to understand there is a process and a waiting period to get the good results God wants to have in our lives.
Galatians 6:9 “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”
The process is not always an easy one but if we stay on track and give it time, we will begin to see results. The waiting period is sometimes filled with ups and downs, disappointments and celebrations, barriers and struggles, but if we give it time, we will begin to see changes. If we put God first in all we do, we will be able to enjoy the process and the anticipation of waiting on God’s results.
When we repeatedly stub our toe, it takes time for the pain to go away. When we fall and skin our knee, it is weeks before the scab is gone and the scar stays for a long time. When we have surgery, there is a time for healing so our bodies can get back to normal. If it takes time for our bodies to heal after something happens, why do we think that our hurt feelings should heal any quicker?
Weight is gained over a period of time and losing that weight takes time and patience. Building muscles, eating right and changing our routines to lose weight are things we need to do repeatedly before we begin to see results. We know when we are doing the right things to keep our bodies healthy. The struggle is we have set backs but when we stay on track, we will see results.
Relationships aren’t built ove
ight. Trust and acceptance take time. When we meet someone for the first time, we don’t really know them until we spend time with them. After spending time with them, asking questions, and sharing ideas we begin to learn their values, experiences and our commonalities.
Learning new skills take a period of time. We can’t rush through something and be good at it the first time. To learn and be proficient at something takes practice. We need to repeat the actions regularly in order to learn and master a new skill. We will have setbacks where we struggle to learn certain things, but with persistence we can learn something new.
Saving money and creating new spending habits takes time. We can’t become rich ove
ight so we have to learn how to save and spend in a way that we change our daily habits so we have more to put away for retirement, education, etc. It is tempting to spend the money we have saved and some of us may have to start over many times, but if we stay strong we can continue to save and see our money grow.
When we become Christians, we won’t know everything we need to know right away. It takes time for us to learn God’s will. It takes time for us to experience and grow the way God wants us to. It takes time to learn the scriptures in the Bible so we can apply them in our lives. We are like babies who know nothing when we first become Christians. We have to start from day one and continue on the path of learning about God in order to mature as a Christian.
We need to be sure we are being patient with ourselves and allowing time for change to happen in all areas of our lives. We should not get tired of doing good. We should plan to accept our slip ups knowing that we can get right back on track if we focus on the end result rather than the mistakes we have made. Our minds will go toward what we continue to think about so we should forget what we did wrong and focus on the right things to do in all areas of our lives.
Anything good is worth waiting for. We are so blessed God knows this. He knows the good in all of us and is patiently waiting on us to see the good in us as well. We need to remember we can’t be perfect but we can give things time and continue toward the goal God has set for us. Our job is to find out what God wants us to do in all areas of our lives and work toward those goals. Then we can make a difference.
