Another year is passing by and here you on the downhill slide to the beginning of a new one. But instead of letting this time slip away and mean nothing, achieve something by setting yourself some new goals.
The truth is, it doesn’t need to be New Year to go about setting goals. Many people use the start of a new year to do this job as it is seen as a fresh beginning, or time to turn over a new leaf. But with only 100 days to the end of the year, NOW is also the perfect time to set yourself some goals for the rest of the year.
Now is the time to assess your life and set goals for the rest of the year. They maybe the exact same goals as the beginning of the year. Did you make some of these resolutions?
1. Lose weight, get fit, and exercise more
2. Spend more time with the family
3. Worry less and relax more
4. Budget
5. Get a better job
If any of these resolutions sound familiar this is because they are some of the most common goals set each year.
A resolution needs a firm commitment and great determination to achieve, but most people are lucky if their goal is kept until the end of January. It's no wonder many people find themselves making the exact same resolutions the following year. But you can achieve your goal by following a few simple steps, and you can do this at any time of the year.
Step 1: Work on one goal at a time. Goals require change and sometimes it's simpler to give up and go back into your old habits than stick to change. So only do one thing at a time or you may be tempted to give up!
Step 2: Plan. Think about your goal and write it down! Put it where you will read it everyday. Set a start date. Prepare a strategy. Write a list of actions to assist you to achieve your goal. Break it down into manageable tasks and approach it one step at a time.
Step 3: Prepare for those hurdles that you know will come up. So think about what hurdles will come up and a way to deal with each one. If you slip up, don't let this make you totally quit. See it as one step back among all the steps you have taken forward. And remember to treat yourself for every step forward you do take as this will keep you motivated to continue.
Step 4: Get Support. This is critical. It's much simpler to stay motivated if you feel supported and accountable to someone. You could buddy up with a colleague or relative as long as you are sure they will support you.
So, forget about New Year Resolutions once and for all. You can set goals any day of the year, and what better time than now to start!
