Goals

If you ask the Success Gurus, e.g. Tony Robbins, Brian Tracey, Ken Blanchard, etc. most will state that goal setting is the number one success tool. If not number one, then close to it. Back in the 1950s, Peter Drucker introduced Management by Objectives and through the 60s and 70s George Odiorne and others did much to develop and popularize it. Since then, many have spoken and written about goal setting. The subject that I find more interesting, however, is goal achieving.

Typically, in management literature, goal achieving boils down to planning. In a nutshell, a plan is a series of steps that moves us from where we are to where we want to be, and planning gurus are quick to point out that “failing to plan is planning to fail.”

In metaphysical literature, the emphasis is not so much on planning but on getting a clear picture of the goal that we wish to achieve. The Law of Attraction then kicks in and brings our goal into our reality.

Recently, I counted 12 books on my shelf that all talk about the Law of Attraction. They begin with “The Master Key”, written in 1912. They include Norman Vincent Peale’s “Power of Positive Thinking”, Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich”, and Earl Nightengale’s “The Strangest Secret”. which were all written over 50 years ago. More recently, there is Rhonda Byrne’s “The Secret”, Wayne Dyer’s “The Power of Intention”, and Ester and Gerry Hickses’ “The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent”, channelled by Abraham. All of these are saying the same thing: “We attract what we think about.”

Today, our scientists are finding evidence in laboratories that supports this Law of Attraction. Michael Talbot wrote a book about 20 years ago, called “The Holographic Universe” in which he reports some of the findings of Quantum Physics. It seems that the scientists are now validating some of what the mystics have been telling us for centuries, things like: we are all energetically connected; matter can travel faster than light; there is an intelligent, energetic, vibrating force in everything; and thought does indeed move matter.

So, if we attract what we think about, why aren’t most of us healthy, wealthy and happy? The fuller answer might be a subject for another article, or a book, but it basically boils down two things: 1) having limiting beliefs and/or 2) not living at a vibrational level that is compatible with the vibration set up by the excitement we feel when we put our attention on what we want. What really excites me in all of this is the role of the subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind, it seems, knows all, remembers all, can recall all, is connected to all, can travel forward and backward in time, is highly receptive and responsive to suggestion, and can mobilize a tremendous amount of energy towards goal achievement. That’s where hypnosis can be so powerful because it enables direct contact with the subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind can recall events and people that we cannot recall consciously. I often ask clients what their earliest childhood memory is. They usually respond with something from around age four or five. In hypnosis, I have taken people back to age three, age six months, in the womb, and to what appears to be past lives.

With hypnosis, going back to an event where a limiting belief or a block was created, the belief can be changed or the block can be released. Once done, the client can then move at an accelerated pace towards their present-day goals. Pure and simple: Hypnosis is an amazingly powerful tool for accelerating goal achievement, and ultimately, for creating a life much more of our choosing. What do you think - exciting?
