Goals & Commitments
Don’t confuse a commitment with a goal!
Commitments are things that you WILL do.
Goals are things that you WOULD LIKE TO do.
I would say that anything that is not in your control would NOT be something you could make a COMMITMENT to.
IE: “I’ll make a COMMITMENT to making 28 sales this month.”
How could you commit to that?
You could make a commitment to trying as hard as you can,
But who is going to help hold you accountable to that?
Yourself?
Focus on the things that you can control.
For instance:
If you know that you’re a pretty good sales person
and historically for every 10 client meetings
you have been able to make about 7 sales.
And you know that for every 5 phone calls you make
you have been able to schedule about 4 meetings.
The one thing that you have control over in this scenario is how many times you
pick up the telephone and call someone for an appointment.
You can only commit to the activity that will then drive your business forward and set yourself up for the greatest possibility of success.
Making phone calls becomes your bite size/controllable piece of your “GOAL” of making 28 sales this month.
You could certainly COMMIT to making 50 calls.
By doing this (based on whatever your experience has been) you could expect out of those 50 calls you would make 40 meetings.
And out of 40 meetings you would generally make 28 sales.
Approach your COMMITMENTS in a way that you have control over them.
Make GOALS a way to stretch your limits and push yourself toward new levels of success.
Commitments without control only become wishful thinking.
Stop being wishful and start taking control of your success.
Both are important, but don’t confuse your commitments with your goals.
Enjoy!

The Power Of Short Term Goals
I have studied high achievers for 25 years, including 23 as a television news reporter. Time and time again I saw the power of goal setting, especially short term goals. Nick Missos was a Warsaw, Indiana 9th grader who wanted to be on the wrestling team. He had two things going against him: he was very weak, and he wa…
