With the Breeder’s Cup Mile this year, another remarkable horse makes way to retirement. Goldikova, the three time winner of Breeder’s Cup Mile and one of the most prominent faces on the Breeder’s Cup circuit retires finishing third in her last attempt at the Mile race. The fine thoroughbred’s roots take her back to France but she found her racing grounds only in the United States. She happened to set an array of incredible performances on the American grounds including the three Breeder’s Cup Mile races making her the only one to ever accomplish such a feat.rnNovember 5th 2011 saw her last run on the Churchill Downs racetrack where she competed against the best of the lot and closed a fine third, despite her age catching up against the other younger and more energetic colts from impressive sires. Goldikova was mounted by her regular jockey, Olivier Peslier, finishing only a length behind the winners Court Vision and Turallure at a difference of a nose. rnSpecializing mostly in Group 1 races, the year 2011 was lined up with Goldikova’s victories in Prix d'Ispahan a second time followed by Prix Rothschild and a second in Prix Jacques le Marois and Queen Anne Stakes. However her presence was duly noticed in the American racing arena as well with her consecutive wins in the Breeder’s Cup Mile in the year 2008, 2009 and, 2010. The mare broke the record set by Miesque last year when she surpassed the maximum number of grade 1 races by a European mare. Last year also declared Goldikova the American Champion Female Turf horse for the second consecutive time along with European Champion Older Horse again twice in a row for 2009 and 2010. rnGoldikova was born French and was trained by the famous jockey Freddy Head. By the time she turned two, Goldikova finished first in two of her first races Prix de Toutevoie and the Prix de la Lorie. Her second year of racing was laced with victories in major European races defeating the most prominent race horses Darjina and Natagora. Goldikova mostly dominated the racing scene in France and Britain but she made yearly comebacks to the Breeder’s Cup each year to keep her winning streak at the Miles cup going. She was also awarded the Eclipse Award’s American Champion Female Turf in the year 2008. rnGoldikova’s career now heads to being a broodmare for many more reputed horses of her calibre.
