No matter how successful you are in the material world or how beautiful you look, all your life’s achievements can fall flat if you cannot sleep well at night. Everyone deserves to sleep well, but unfortunately, vast majorities amongst us have insurmountable trouble falling asleep, no matter how hard they try. There is nothing as unfortunate, distressing and tiring as not being able to sleep, when you want to. However, you need not lose hope as there are several good night sleep techniques available that provide assured help for all those who have trouble falling asleep. These natural sleeping aids have nothing to do with the use of strong sedatives or other tranquilizers, many of which leave you in a state of stupor, rather than promote a healthy sleep pattern. Good night sleep techniques: find the reason for lying awake If you believe in the saying that there is no smoke without a fire, you need to probe a bit deeper into your own body and mind and locate the real cause for not being able to sleep. A few of the common reasons for having trouble falling asleep are: • A sedentary lifestyle that does not involve any physical exercise. Eat, drink and be merry could be your life motto, and it can keep you happy and content for sometime. However, you might have to sacrifice sleep, if you continue with this rather ‘decadent’ lifestyle for too long. • Consumption of tobacco, alcohol and caffeine. Over consumption of any of these artificial ‘stimulants’ could negatively impact the quality and intensity of sleep. • An over-anxious mind could be causing you trouble falling asleep. Worrying too much over any situation or someone robs a good nights’ sleep. • Temporary lifestyle alterations like relocating to a new city, sleeping on a new bed could be other causes that are easily curable. • You may also have trouble falling asleep if you suffer from any physiological, anatomical or biological malfunctioning that is causing difficulty if breathing. Obviously, there could be umpteen other reasons why you have problems with sleep. Whatever be the reasons, you should not ignore this problem, as it might get worse over time. Moreover, lack of proper sleep results in a host of other problems including irritability, fatigue, depression, anxiety and more. Good night sleep techniques: going the natural way As mentioned previously, the key to finding the right solution to your sleeplessness is to locate the cause. For example, if you know that there is a serious dearth of physical activity in your life, you need to work out some schedule during the day or evening, when you exercise outdoors or indoors. A simple walk in the park or a small swim, rowing, gardening, and many such otherwise innocuous physical activities can be effective natural sleeping aids promoting tiredness of the mind and body. Making the right kind of lifestyle choices is another important aspect of living healthy. Even if you cannot give up smoking or consuming alcohol, reduce the frequency as much as possible and watch the impact of such abstinence on your sleeping patterns. One of the most trusted and natural sleeping aids are practicing the art of relaxation. Yoga, is today acknowledge the world over as one of the most effective techniques to live and think healthy; to restore physical and mental balance and some of the techniques can actually cure several chronic and acute health disorders. In case your trouble with sleeping is attributable to physical or anatomical defects, you should not only seek medical intervention but also follow the doctors’ advice to the tee. You have to keep in mind that not all sleeping medications are linked to sedatives and tranquilizers.
