Once you've narrowed your list to a couple of companies that appear to be a good fit, contact with these things in mind:
* Were receptive to your request, or does it take four days to return your call? Were they friendly and helpful and take time to learn about your business and your needs? (Beware of companies that lead the discussion with the design considerations only. How are users going to find your site to start, and how the site generate leads or sales?) Did they speak over your head using lot of jargon in an attempt to up-sell you on their products?
* What kinds of guarantees do they offer for their products? What support is available? Do they have a thorough testing process? What are the terms of the contract and who has the final design, source code and intellectual property?
Now that you have found a couple of different companies, and a couple of proposals in hand, you will want to take some time to compare them carefully and check references. Call multiple customers of the company and ask the following questions:
* Have the 'enterprise achieve your goals and objectives?
* Does the site function properly?
* Are you satisfied with the design?
* What is your target audience think of the design and functionality?
* Did you get the ROI you expected?

3) Do not just pick the first company you see. Interview say four or five of them to get a better understanding of what exists and what you can get for your money.
