Google is huge. They have been for many years now, but that wasn’t always the case. When Google first came into the industry, the SEO game was a lot different. It wasn’t about quality, more about quantity. People crammed as many keywords into their sites as possible, only to then run heavily advertisement ridden sites that weren’t any use. However, Google’s algorithm changed all of that. Now their search results were dictated by quality and the way in which keywords were woven into the site. As you can imagine, there’s been a fair few updates to the system, and we’re going to take a look at some of them here and now. The Panda Update The Panda Update was one that took place in 2011, and it remains one of the most essential updates ever created by Google. What the Panda does is provide an update to the filter system for Google. This filtration system searches for websites which are trying to hoodwink the system. It searches for such things as duplicate content, any content which is thin and deliberately adds in keywords for the sake of keywords, and also any text which is just blatant keyword stuffing. In essence, it stops spam-based sites from gaining prominence and overshadowing real sites that have gone to the trouble of getting real SEO Ireland. The Venice Update As you can probably tell, Google remains one of the top search engines because it continues to make updates which can benefit everyone. In this case, they released the Venice Update in 2012. This allowed Google to use the IP address of each user to provide them with services relevant to their location. Prior to this, you’d have searched for something and then added a physical location on it. This means that companies and businesses had to change the way that they looked at SEO. Keywords could now be more free flowing and simplistic, because the location wasn’t as bad. For example, you didn’t necessarily have to search Belfast SEO Agency to find an organisation offering that service based in that location. It changed the way that people look at SEO, and helped to create a more efficient and user friendly experience. The possum and pigeon updates further expanded upon this, providing an even closer search for people to work with. Overall, these are just a couple of the updates which Google has implemented into its algorithm. It is easy to see why they have remained on top of the search engine world. All of the additions they’ve added in have helped to make sure that Google is in fact one of the best search engines out there. An experience that measures websites based on their quality and not quantity, as well as changing the way that we look at SEO was always going to be a big player.
