One of the present day devices that have made life much easier than before is the GPS tracking device. It is like a navigator sitting beside you while you are driving, giving you step by step instructions regarding which turn to take and how far to go. It is a boon to drivers who do not know the route to their destination. With this device, they need not stop on the way to get directions from others.
The feeling of being lost can be very frustrating to vehicle drivers. A GPS tracking device software can instill confidence in the driver and he can concentrate on his driving. This device is an excellent tool to track a vehicle's whereabouts and can be used to send instructions to the driver if he is headed the wrong way.
How a GPS Device Works
Originally GPS devices were used for military purposes but gradually the advantage of using them for civilian purposes became apparent and they were adapted for use in the form of maps and trackers. The United States launched 24 orbiting satellites in the latter part of the 20th century and these are used to beam signals which the GPS tracking device can pick up.
It has a central chipset which serves as a processor for receiving the satellite's signals and converting it into information regarding your location.
The transmission of signals from the satellites is done on a very low frequency and they are beamed from quite a distance. It is important to have a good chipset in the GPS tracking device so that it can pick up the signals and distinguish them from among the multitude of other signals. Essentially the chipset should have a 'massively parallel correlators' feature that will enable it to receive very feeble signals and locate the position of the vehicle quickly.
Usefulness of GPS Devices
A GPS tracking device is an extremely useful tool for fleet management. Its use ensures high efficiency in fleet operations and helps ensure safety of drivers, other personnel, and safety of the vehicles. Each vehicle can be operated at the optimum capacity thereby reducing cost and increasing profitability. The benefits of using this device include quick returns on investment, lowering of fuel costs and reducing overtime work by drivers. With timely maintenance, there will be fewer breakdowns and accidents and it can help improve the performance of drivers.
By combining GPS technology with satellite communications and asset management software, it is possible to provide solutions for all fleet management, monitoring, and tracking needs. This combination minimizes risks by enhancing security and safety. Moreover, vital information such as engine activity, idle time and data regarding stoppages is available at all times so that corrective measures can be taken as and when necessary. The GPS technology makes it possible to transmit all data regarding the vehicle including its position, condition of its engine, and the route it is taking to the operations center via satellite communication.
The fleet management software makes it possible to generate reports, issue commands, set alerts and monitor the fleet on a comprehensive basis. Real-time communication is also possible between the fleet manager and the driver. The use of GPS tracking devices has made it very easy for drivers and the fleet management to collect critical fleet data at anytime from anywhere.
