Great 4x4s to buy for less than £10,000

Buying a good quality 4x4 for under £10,000 might seem like an easy task but once you check out the used car market you realise that many of the 4x4s on offer have been driven hard and might not be as reliable as you initially though. But there are a few good vehicles to choose from out there you just need to know what to focus on. The two top cars to check out are the Land Rover Defender and the Range Rover although the latter would probably cost more like £12,000 for a decent model with less than 100,000 miles on the clock. The Defender is the iconic 4x4 vehicle and you could probably get decent old models as cheap as a few thousand pounds while £5,000 should buy you a 15 year old model with a diesel engine. Other cars to look out for include the Mercedes M-class where around £8,000 should buy you a decent 2004 model with around 80,000 miles on the clock. This is a large vehicle with 7 seats and might not be everybody’s cup of tea as it’s not particularly frugal because of its size. A smaller vehicle which would also suit people living in more built up areas is the Suzuki Jimny. The 1,3 –litre model is more economical than the giants of the 4x4 family and £6,000 should buy you a decent 2006 model with around 50,000 miles on the clock. New Suzuki Jimny comes with a great warranty too so if you make a detour to your local >Suzuki dealer you might find a nearly new one for sale for a great price. A relative newcomer on the circuit is the popular Volkswagen Touareg but you would probably need a bit more than £10,000 to get a decent five-year old diesel model. But the investment would give you a car which performs well both off and on the roads. So in addition to the popular Land Rovers, many other manufacturers offer great 4x4 vehicles. It’s just a matter of getting out there to investigate what’s on offer.
