If you own a local business and want to get more customer or enquiries, you've probably thought about putting an ad in a local newspaper or magazine; but have you thought about Google?rnGoogle Adwords is a great tool/platform that allows businesses to place a light advert above or to the side of Google results. Adwords is great because when a prospective customer is searching or your service, you can get your advert to show up and send them to your website!rnAdwords can seem a little daunting there is a lot of new stuff to learn and you can get caught up with all the buttons and categories! So you’ve got two options learn all you can using the internet and then us trial and error until you get good results OR you can simple hire a Google Adwords Consultant to do it for you.rnBelow are some tips and tricks on how you can improve the profitability, click through and conversion:rn1) Location targetingrnAs a local business your customer are limited to your Geographic location, Google Adwords allows you to target only searches within a certain location; so you don’t waste money on people hundreds of miles away! Adwords gives you a number of options to help you target your local market. Radius Targeting; gives you the option to target by mile or km from either a post code or town. Town or City; you can target by city remember you can target multiple towns or cities. I would recommend you start off small with a few local towns then build out if you don’t get much response.rn2) Network selectionrnWhen you start a new campaign by default you will show adverts on the search network and the content network. As a new local advertiser I’d advise limiting your advertising only to the Google search network, because it is easier to see returns.rn3) Organised Campaigns and AdgroupsrnIt’s very important to keep your Adwords account organised, this will not only help you keep on top of management and monitoring performance, but it also will help your quality score. For example if you’re a builder; you should separate adgroups for new homes and also for house repairs. This should help you be more specific & relevant keywords and you can also be more specific with adverts to increase your click through rating.rn4) Keyword selectionrnWhen your potential customer are looking for your service on Google, they will more than likely search using location specific keywords, e.g. Congleton hairdressers. You should choose a range of keywords that are specific to each of your service type and then add the location. For example if you offer car valeting in Shrewsbury; find the keywords that relate to your service e.g. car valeting, car cleaning etc. Now add location specific terms like cities, suburbs or towns. So you’ll be left with a list of keywords like Shrewsbury Car Valeting, Shrewsbury Car Wash.rnSummaryrnSo now you should know all you need to know about advertising your local business on Google Adwords. Google is fairly straight forward to use, but if you don’t have the time to learn all of the systems it may turn out cheaper and easier to use a PPC consultant. A PPC consultant will manage all aspects of your PPC campagin and will aim to get you maximum traffic for the least CPC (cost per click).
