Growing old in California will cost you your lifetime savings. People as young as 40 are already advised to study California long term care costs if they want to protect themselves and their families from potential financial losses. California is not the only state that is threatened by the escalating cost of care, but no one can ignore the fact that the rates of this state’s long term care (LTC) facilities are higher than what is offered in other areas. To be able to keep their elderly loved ones in a nursing home, Californians spend $245 a day for a private room which has an annual equivalent of $91,250. Semi-private rooms of nursing homes in California would cost, on average, $208 daily or $77,745 per annum. Finding a nursing home that will provide quality care is not difficult in California nor is it hard to avail in-home care services as the state is teeming with both for-profit and non-profit health care associations that work to improve in-home, institutional and community-based care. What many people will surely find an obstruction to quality LTC is the cost per se of this service because it is usually more than anybody’s annual income. In fact, at present so many families especially those with loved ones confined in nursing homes are suffering already. Adult children and spouses had to resort to early retirement so that they can take care of their elderly parents, partners and even in-laws who have functional limitations or cognitive impairment. Caring for the people you love is never wrong but it eventually becomes if it is the reason of your own detriment. Leaving your job, using up your nest egg to foot the nursing home bills of your parents or spouse, and not planning your personal health care requirements are detrimental to your future. While you’re young and active at work, you should start planning for your long term care because there are many nursing home residents who once thought their healthy lifestyle and diet will spare them from needing serious care. Planning for California Long Term Care LTC is always associated with money and many wonder why. The reason behind is that this type of service is not easy on the pocket. It’s not like going to an ophthalmologist or optometrist then after having your vision problem solved you can go back to your normal life. Once you can no longer eat, bathe, dress up, use the toilet, manage continence, and move about your house without assistance from others, then begins your need for care that can go on for months or even years. As mentioned earlier in this article, a day’s stay in a California nursing home will cost $245, on average, but in 2030 the cost of care is projected to rise fourfold so a nursing home’s daily rate by that time would be $980. Can you afford that if say you’ll be staying for three years in this type of LTC facility? The cost of California long term care gets higher every year so it is important for everybody to have a specific plan that will provide partial or full LTC coverage.
